The day has come, my film is all developed and scanned!
Seeing the photographs reminds me of more than images. The air was filled with an eclectic mix of music, laughter, and the hum of camaraderie. Neon lights illuminated the night, creating an atmosphere that seemed almost surreal. The unique blend of scents - the aroma of food trucks, the freshness grass (multiple kinds), and the sweet scent of freedom that only a music festival could provide!
My camera, specifically film is always an extension of my soul, capturing moments in a way digital cameras couldn't replicate.
It’s a good time that’s truly easy to shoot as captivating scenes are at every turn. A group of friends dancing joyously beneath a canopy of fairy lights; a soulful singer pouring their heart out on stage; strangers uniting in shared love for music, losing themselves in the moment!
The limitations of film photography do keep me thoughtful with each shot. I have to consider composition, lighting, and timing carefully, as you only had a limited number of exposures on your roll of film. Unlike the instant gratification of digital photography, I rely on my instincts and hope that the essence of the moment would be preserved the way I see it instead of mindlessly clicking until I reach my desired vision.
Throughout the festival, I encountered interesting characters and stories. From the passionate music fan who traveled halfway across the country to be there, to the Tennessee local who drove 30min. I really feel that every experience enriched my experience as a photographer!
As Bonnaroo came to an end, and the sun began to rise on the final day, I felt a sense of bittersweet end but excitement for what I had captured.
Seeing the images now transports me back to those moments. The grainy textures, the imperfect exposures, and the authentic emotions make the images come alive. Preserving the essence of these moments in time is important to me. I’m proud and thankful to have the friends and resources to do it!
In a sense, these photographs are a time capsule - a tribute to the spirit of Bonnaroo and a reminder that sometimes, the most profound memories are the ones you capture with a simple film camera!
